Literacy Specialists
As literacy specialists we believe that all students need access to high quality literacy instruction. We partner closely with classroom teachers and parents to provide high quality literacy instruction for all primary students at Soaring Hawk.
What is Reading Recovery?
Reading Recovery is a highly effective short-term intervention of one-to-one tutoring for low-achieving first graders. The intervention is most effective when it is available to all students who need it and is used as a supplement to good classroom teaching. Individual students receive a half-hour lesson each school day for 12 to 20 weeks with a specially trained Reading Recovery teacher. As soon as students can meet grade-level expectations and demonstrate that they can continue to work independently in the classroom, their lessons are discontinued, and new students begin individual instruction.
What are Literacy Groups?
Literacy groups are a highly effective short-term intervention of a small group of students with similar literacy goals. Students receive thirty minutes of targeted instruction each school day with a specially trained literacy teacher in a small group. These small groups may continue for 6 to 9 weeks. As soon as students can meet grade-level expectations and demonstrate that they can continue to work independently in the classroom, their lessons are discontinued.
