Hanna Karcher - School Psychologist

Hello! My name is Hanna Karcher, and I am the School Psychologist here at the wonderful Soaring Hawk Elementary. This will be my 19th year as a School Psychologist, and I can honestly say—I absolutely love what I do! My mission is to ensure that all children can succeed, no matter their challenges, when provided with the right support and guidance. I truly believe that learning is not a sprint—it's a marathon. And learning goes far beyond academics; it includes emotions, social skills, perseverance, and much more. Strong communication between home and school is also something I deeply value. As the saying goes, “Success is best when shared!”

I live right here in beautiful Castle Rock with my husband and our two kids. When I’m not at school, you’ll find us shuttling our kids to hockey, gymnastics, theater, karate, and Girl Scouts—it’s a busy but fun life! I'm really looking forward to a fantastic school year. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you ever have questions or concerns—I’m here to support you, your child, and your family.

Melody Surat - School Counselor

Hi, I’m Melody Surat, the school counselor at SHE. I’m passionate about creating a welcoming space where students feel supported, understood, and encouraged to grow both inside and outside of the classroom. Along with my work at school, I also have a private counseling practice where I provide therapy.

As a mom of five, I understand the ups and downs that students go through and I bring both my professional knowledge and personal compassion into my work. I truly believe every student has unique strengths, and I love helping them recognize and build on those strengths.

Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with my family, staying active with fitness, and going on adventures; whether that’s exploring new places, trying new foods, or enjoying the outdoors.

Roles:

  • Provide social/emotional services as outlined on students IEPs
  • Attend annual IEP meetings for students services
  • Some SE evals with collaboration of evals
  • Consultation with teachers on IEP students
  • Safety Assessments (Suicide Assessment, Threat Assessment, Child abuse reporting support)

Hayley Kleinsasser - Social Worker

Hi! My name is Hayley (Kleinsasser) DeMello and I am the school social worker primarily working with the affective needs kiddos. I have a BA in Psychology and a BS in Criminal Justice from Florida Gulf Coast University, and a Masters of Social Work from the University of Denver. My dream has always been to be a school social worker and now I am living my dream. I am originally from South Florida and grew up in the city of Parkland but have been living in Colorado for a few years now. I live in Lone Tree with my wife and 5 animals (2 dogs and 3 cats!). When I am not at work, you will find me hanging out at home with my wife, camping, or exploring all of the beautiful trails that Colorado has. I look forward to an amazing school year and supporting all of the students and families. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out.
